Account IP/Browser blocking. The primary purpose of an account IP blocking is to prevent the system from logging a specific set of IP addresses or browsers. By specifying one or more IPs under “My Account > General Settings”, an account owner can block the specified IPs from being detected by the website visitor tracker. This function allows to save log space and avoids capturing unnecessary traffic log data.
Generally, this IP blocking feature is used to prevent the system from logging the website owner’s activity. However, other uses include but are not limited to the prevention of logging undesired traffic such as that generated by unknown bots, automation appliances that visit specific pages of automation websites, and activity of other computers for which the activity data is not required.
To configure the tracker to ignore specific IPs or browsers, see Account IP/Browser blocking tutorial.
Visitor IP blocking. This feature is used to block specific IPs or an IP range from being able to access website content. This is accomplished via using a Page Tracker and a Link Tracker tools.
- Page Tracker is designed to block or otherwise control access to a single or a specific range of website pages.
- Link Tracker is utilized to block, control and redirect visitor traffic for clicks on specific links.
Both IP access control features have an extensive set of options, that allow controlling access to website content based on IP address, geo-location of an address, user system specifications, referrer information and browsing activity types.
To access Page and Link Tracker options, login to an TraceMyIP account, go to “My Projects” report, and use a project navigation menu. For a step-by-step tutorial on how to configure these features, refer to the “Blocking an IP address” tutorial.
