To become a free TraceMyIP service subscriber, first, go to tracemyip.org
Click on the register link on the right upper side of the screen. Here you will find essential information on the features and their distribution among the different subscription levels.
For the purpose of this tutorial, scroll down the page and select the Free Subscription level button. On the following subscription confirmation page, click the continue button. On the next page, you will find an option to select a visitor tracker style that you would like to use for your visitor tracker project. For each domain name, you will need to create a separate project. With each project, you can track an entire domain name with all of its subdomains, or you can create a separate project for each individual subdomain.
When selecting your visitor tracker style, you can observe that some visitor tracker styles are designed to only show a status that the visitor tracker is capturing statistical data. Other visitor tracker badges can display basic real-time visitor data, such as a count of visitors, total page loads, an IP address, and geographical information.
Once you have selected a style, you will be taken to the next page where you specify the information for your project, such as the name of the project, and the primary URL, and select other pertinent options.
If you have full control of your website content or host your own website, select a JavaScript version of the tracker code as it will provide you with all available information about your website visitors without limitations. Note that if you do not have full control of your website or you use a hosted blog you may only be able to use an HTML version of the tracker. To get the most out of your visitor tracking service, first, install a Javascript version of the tracker.
Once you have specified the project information, you will be prompted to confirm the provided information and an account creation email message will be sent to your email address to verify your subscription and create a FREE visitor tracking account.
TraceMyIP is a spam-free service. You do not need to worry about any spam messages sent to your email address. Your email address is kept completely confidential in the system and is not shared with anyone for any purpose. Your email address will only be used for account and visitor alerts that you can configure per your requirements.
On the next screen, you will be provided with the information on the activation of your brand new visitor tracker account, and the code that you will need to place in the footer or a header of your website. The header would be a better location as if you have a lot of content on your website, the visitor tracker will capture visits as soon as your web pages start to load. Do not forget to copy the code and place it in the HTML editor code section of your footer or a header. Once the code is properly placed and saved, a service status icon will show up on all pages of your website, confirming that the system is ready to capture data. You will need to use the same visitor tracker code on ALL pages if you place it separately for each page instead of using a header or a footer, which automatically loads the code on all pages.
Now you will need to check your email for an activation link sent by TraceMyIP. If you do not receive a message within a few minutes, check your email spam folder and if you find a message there, make sure to flag the message as “not spam” to ensure that you receive important account information sent to you in the future. You can also add the email address from TraceMyIP to your email address book to ensure that the messages about your website tracking data and account do not end up in the spam folder.
Once you receive an account confirmation email, click on the confirmation link provided. Once confirmed, you will be able to log in to your brand new TraceMyIP account and set the basic settings.
