When visitor tracker, page tracker, or link tracker codes are installed on a website, they are served in a native HTML format to web browsers, which execute the code to enable the collection of statistics about overall website usage, consumer browsing trends, page views, link activity, and other relevant visitor behavior.

These types of tracking codes may require removal for the following reasons:
- Code updates
- Repositioning or placement adjustments of the visitor tracker image
- Changing a visitor tracker icon style
- Reformatting of the page layout
- Temporary suspension of tracking
- Closing a TraceMyIP account
How to locate the original code placement for editing and/or removal
The tracker codes are manually installed by website publishers. TraceMyIP cannot automatically install, manage, or remove tracker code installations. Therefore, the codes must be removed using the same methods of installation.
Note that if you need to temporarily disable tracking, you can use this feature to achieve this.
Generally, the codes are installed using the following methods, which can also be used to uninstall the trackers:
- Visitor tracker plugins and extensions. Official plugins such as those available for WordPress tracking or Joomla tracking. These tools can be simply disabled and removed using the web editor interface that was used originally to install them. Once the plugins or extensions are removed, the tracking codes will automatically be removed.
- Manually inserted codes into pages, website headers, or footers. If the tracker JavaScript or HTML codes were manually placed into pages served, these would have to be removed in the same order they were placed.
If the codes were installed into the header or footer of a website, removing the code manually would automatically remove it from all pages of the website. If the code was manually inserted into each individual page, then those pages would need to be manually edited to remove the code in the same manner it was installed. This also applies to the link and page access control trackers and IP blockers.
Additional notes
- When a visitor tracker project is deleted, the codes must be manually removed from the websites. Leaving the codes intact on websites that point to a non-existing project would create a notice on the website indicating that the project does not exist. This also applies to link and page trackers that point to a non-existing project.
- When a visitor tracker has an invisible tracker mode enabled and you have stopped using the service completely and have not renewed your subscription, all projects and the account will be automatically removed after a period of time. Once the projects are removed, the visitor trackers will become visible, indicating that the projects no longer exist. In this case, the codes would need to be manually removed.
- To ensure that all code instances are removed, disable the invisible tracker option on the applicable project, remove the codes, and browse your website pages to confirm the removal.
- Some website publishing tools offer website cache tools. After the trackers are removed, make certain to purge the website cache, as the trackers may continue to display after manual removal of the codes.
- If you decide to stop using the service completely and have uninstalled all trackers, refer to the account cancellation page for more information.
